Power Test Question

Power: Test Question

In a short essay (5 paragraphs) explain this quote:
"Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely."
Make sure you  give examples of how this is true both in Macbeth and in real life.
According to the story No Fear Shakespeare: Macbeth by Shakespeare himself  the quote "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely" refers to the play completely. The quote's meaning is: having power can corrupt someone's judgement as well as how they act and how they treat others. Absolute power, such as a dictator, king or a leader, corrupts absolutely because the leader can do anything they please without anyone having a say to what they have done or what they are about to do. There are three people from the play that this quote applies to which is the three witches, lady macbeth, and macbeth.
In the story No Fear Shakespeare: Macbeth, The three witchs have absolute power because they can tell the future. The reason why i say they have absolute power is because they can make a person change there whole perspective on things and make them take action in what they heard. For example, In act 4 macbeth killed macduff's family because the three witches told macbeth to beware. Not only in act 4 but in the beginning of act one beginning of act 1 then they said , "All hail, Macbeth! Hail to you, thane of Glamis!,
All hail, Macbeth! Hail to you, thane of Cawdor!, and All hail, Macbeth, the future king!" Telling macbeth that he was going to be future king made him get the crazy idead that the only way he would be king is if he killed king duncan.

Lady macbeth also has absolute power in this story because she can get into the mind of her husband to make him do anything she says. In Act 1, scenes 5–7 lady macbeth persuaded her husband macbeth to kill king duncan for her own good. She wanted what she wante and she got what she wanted. This shows that lady macbeth has absolute power to corrupt macbeth. Not only in the play but this can happen in real life because someone that has more power over someone can make that person do something that they dont want to do.

The last person that this quote applies to would be macbeth. The reason why i say that this quote applies to macbeth because once he had power he took advantage of his power. He hired the three murders to kill banquo. His power went to his head he became corrupt was refers to this the quote given. This also goes to real life situations because people who has power can abuse there power for no reason and become corrupt.

According to the story No Fear Shakespeare: Macbeth by Shakespeare himself  the quote "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely" refers to the play completely. The quote's meaning is: having power can corrupt someone's judgement as well as how they act and how they treat others. There are three people from the play that this quote applies to which is the three witches, lady macbeth, and macbeth. These three people showed that power can have a good impact and a bad impact but in the end they showed that the quote was proven right.

What do you think?

Describe the process you took to present your scene.  What went well? Not so well? What would you do differently next time you had to do a scene?

In my scene i had to be the messenger and i had to learn how to gain self confidence and use my public speaking skills to complete my scene. My scene went well until i messed up and forgot my line but after the second time i did well. I think i wouldnt do anything differently .

Weakness

Who is weaker? Macbeth or Lady Macbeth?  Why?

Lady macbeth is weaker than macbeth because she finally cracked in the end after macbeth she couldnt handle the lies . She became crazy and she was having dreams and hearing voices. Macbeth was taking all the lies to the grave he didnt care after a while.

Manliness

Discuss the question, what does it mean to be a “man”?  Do you agree with Lady Macbeth’s view? Or do you think Macbeth’s consideration is more “manly”?

I feel as though that lady macbeth has a point in what she see's as being a man. A man should not be cowardly or even scared to do what ever he has to do . He is suppose to show his lady that he is boss and he isnt afraid of anything. He shouldnt have his women trying to kill someone that is not her job. But then again macbeth doesnt have to kill if he doesnt want to he can still be a man handleing situations in another mannor.

Ambition

Create your own argument: Whose ambition is driving this killing of Duncan, really? It is clear that neither character is telling Duncan or Banquo how they really feel, but do they tell one another?  Be sure to pick lines that show you both direct and indirect evidence for your argument.

It is clear that lady macbeths ambition is driving this killing of duncan. She is more into killing duncan that macbeth is. She feels as though her husband macbeth is a weak coward and she knows he will not kill duncan. "Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty." - lady macbeth. She said this because she wanted to be a man in order to kill the king because women in this time did not have the rights to do what men could do. macbeth said, "If it were dont when 'tis done, then 'twere well it were done quickly." he was unsure of making any action because he really didnt want to do it. Neither of the characters showed king duncan or banquo how they felt and they never told one another either.

Questions

How do the right questions help you access text better? What difficulties did you find asking questions?

The right questions help you acess the text better because it gives you a better understanding of what you read. I found it most difficult for me to ask questions without the handout you have given the class because i didnt even understand the text itself. Once you have questions you can actually point out the answers. Asking good questions is key.
